The domestic pepper market slowed down on a large scale, with the highest price in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, the lowest in Gia Lai province. According to experts, the pepper price is unlikely to return to the previous record high of 200,000 VND/kg, but at the current price, the pepper industry in Vietnam still has the opportunity to soon regain the highest export position.

Onion – India

The onion market in India is currently stable, and the arrival of fresh onions has also been confirmed. Recent events suggest that the market will remain calm for at least the next two weeks. Onion price in India jumped by +58.96% YoY to USD 0.28/kg in W2 Apr-22. Heavy rains led to significant damage to onion production resulting in a supply shortage. Low supply pushed the price of Indian onion to increase in 2022.

Since last month, there has been a severe labour shortage in onion producing area, which has been disrupting normal operations. The labour scarcity is having a direct influence on factory’s output and, as a result on the delivery schedule.

Turmeric – India

The global curcumin market is growing rapidly and is expected to become a $ 112 million market by 2025, according to the latest study by Fairfield Market Research, India being one of the major producers of turmeric, contributes 80% to global production. Over 250,000 hectares is used for turmeric cultivation in India, with an average yield of 5646.34 kg per hectare. Beyond its traditional consumer in Asia, curcumin has recently started penetrating the European markets more deeply. The main European countries are likely to uphold the market growth with the growing demand for medicinal, pharmaceutical, and therapeutic benefits of curcumin.

Lentils – India

The farmgate price of Turkish dried lentils increased by +135.54% YoY to TRY 14.25/kg in W2 Apr-22. Drought disrupted the production of dried lentils in Turkey. The new zero import tariff for dried lentils led to improve demand from the importing markets. This led the Turkish dried lentils price to soar in April 2022.

Bell Pepper – Spain & Turkey

Spanish Bell Pepper Prices are currently going through a downward trend. The wholesale price of bell pepper in Spain decreased by -45.54% YoY to USD 1.23/kg in the third week of April 2022. Increased production and favourable weather led the Spanish bell pepper price to drop in April 2022.

Turkish Bell Pepper Prices increased due to improved global demands. Bell pepper price in Turkey has skyrocketed by 161.08% YoY to USD 2.25/kg in the second week of Apr-22. High input costs affected the Turkish bell pepper price. Due to the ongoing war with Ukraine, Russia as one of the importing markets for Turkey, lifted the import of bell pepper ban in April 2022.

Chilli Pepper, Zucchini, Tomatoes – Turkey

Turkey has approximately 360K/ha of greenhouse land with production in specific fruits; tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and zucchini.

Recently, there has been an increase in commodity prices in the world, and this increase is also reflected in vegetable prices. Due to the developments in the world, the prices of vegetable products were much higher in comparison to the other products. One of the factors affecting this was that Turkey had a cold winter, and the ripening of the products was delayed. Therefore, as the maturation of the products was delayed, the prices of the products increased due to short supply.

The weather is getting warmer in Turkey, so the harvest has intensified in production areas, and there shall be decrease in product’s prices. In the last 20 years, Antalya’s vegetable production has increased by 85. In addition, pepper production is approximately 500 thousand tons, eggplant production is 500K/mt. The region of Antalya is in the lead, relative to the rest of the country, for the production of many vegetables with its producers using the latest technology.

Coriander – India

Due to low stocks and short crop of coriander seed, the prices in India have almost doubled over the past year. The wholesale price for the commodity in Rajasthan, one of the leading coriander producing states in India, reached USD1.45/kg in W3 April 2022, a 94% surge YoY. Depleted old-crop stocks at the end of March 2022 and lower coriander seed production in the current season have been supporting wholesale prices over the last two months.

Tomato – Brazil

The price of long-life salad tomatoes remains high this April. In the first fortnight (until the 14th of April), the average price in the countryside was R$ 107.82/case (weighted by classification), a value 15.1% higher than that obtained in March and 131.2% above the production cost estimates, indicating positive profitability for producers.

Mustard seeds – India

There is high demand for Indian Mustard Seeds as Russian Importers shifts their sources. The wholesale price of mustard seed in India rose by 73.86% YoY to USD 0.99/kg in W3 Apr-22.
